I was sitting with Momma, watching TV when something caught my attention.  I don’t recall what station we were watching, but I heard the most fantastic news!  The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission will participate in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Parade.  http://www.inauguralscholar.com/when-is-inauguration-day-2013/

I am not a native South Carolinian, but when I heard this information it truly made my heart sing.  We moved to the Charleston, SC area in 2005, not by choice, but as it seems to have turned out, by divine guidance.  The reasons are not significant to my post, but I am glad that the Universe deigned that Charleston and Mt. Pleasant would be home.  http://www.townofmountpleasant.com/http://www.charleston-sc.gov/home/home.aspx, http://www.sciway.net/city/awendaw-sc.html.

Over the years I have grown to love the area affectionately referred to as the Low-Country, http://www.southcarolinalowcountry.com/.   I have developed a respect for the people, the environment, the history and all that is South Carolina.  I have had the honor to know many “locals” that are of the Gullah Geechee heritage, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gullah#Origin_of_Gullah_culture.  They are truly a beautiful, special group of people and I am happy to call many my friend.

I hope you enjoy the photographs of that represent but one of the reasons the Gullah Geechee people are so special.  Many thanks to Mrs. Manigault and Celestine Flippen for allowing me to photograph their beautiful work, and allowing me to share a small bit of what is the Gullah Geechee Pride!  www.sweetgrassfestival.org
